Iperius Backup is a popular backup software for Windows. Personally, I have been using this software for sometimes and so far, I am very satisfied with the overall performance. Today, I am going to review this software a bit deeper. Instead of backup regular files and folders, I am going to use this software to backup my MySQL databases. I am using Iperius Backup version 5.7.3.
Iperius Backup supports multiple database servers including MySQL, PostgreSQL, SQL Server and some others. But here I will only discuss about the MySQL one. This software can backup MySQL to local disk, network drive, remote FTP server, Google Drive, Amazon S3, Dropbox and some other cloud storage. We can backup a single database or all databases at once. For more information about features, please have a look at Iperius official website.
The Installation
The installation process of Iperius Backup is pretty similar to any other Windows software installation. There is no special requirements during install process. You can download Iperius Backup free trial version if you want. There is Iperius Backup free version with some limitation. The free version only allows files and folders backup. If you want to try the MySQL Backup, you can also enable the Iperius Backup Full Version trial directly from the program window.
User Interface
When it comes to user interface, Iperius Backup is one of the best and easiest design to use. It has a lot of features but it also very handy to use. Even if you are new to this software, you won’t get any difficulties to use it. Everytime we want to create a new task, the easy to use wizard window will open up to guide us.
How to Backup MySQL Database
Please note that during our tests, Iperius Backup version 5.7.3 is unable to connect to MySQL Server 8.0. I hope they will fix this issue in the next release. First, we need to create a new MySQL backup job. From the home window, click Create a New Backup Job. Click MySQL
Next, you will need to enter your MySQL Server details, select the database and also provide the backup destination. it is super easy.
After the backup process completes, Iperius will perform backup verification that ensure our data integrity. This is a great feature and not all MySQL backup software has this feature.
How to Restore Database
I found some MySQL backup software that does not have restore function. But Iperius has it. To restore your database from previous backup, you can do the following:
- Click Restore icon
- Click MySQL
- Select the MySQL Connection
- Provide the backup file
- Choose where to restore the database
- Click Run Restore
Iperius can restore the backup file to the original database or create a new one.
