I had to move my existing Windows 10 to a new SSD drive. But the problem is my new SSD drive is smaller than my existing hard disk. I have 500 GB drive containing Windows 10 and data. I want to move only my Operating System to my new 256GB SSD drive. I tried to use AOMEI Backupper Professional and it works great. This is not a paid review of AOMEI Backupper. I just want to share my experience and you may want to move your OS to new SSD which is a lot faster.
Try AOMEI Backupper Professional or purchase the full version from the official website. Install it on your current Windows 10. At this point, I assume you have attached the new SSD to your computer.
Steps to Migrate Windows 10 to Smaller SSD Drive
Open AOMEI Backupper Professional and navigate to Clone tab. Now click System Clone.
On the following image, you can see Disk0 contains Windows 10 and Disk1 which is my new SSD drive. Also you can see that Disk1 is smaller in size than Disk0.
we need to select the disk destination. In this case, lets click Disk1. It will turn into green as follow.
Click Next and then make sure you check the option “Align partition to optimize for SSD”.
Click Start Clone to start the cloning process. This will take some times. Go grab your coffee and wait until completed.
The entire process is very easy and you don’t have to be a computer expert to clone your operating system to a new SSD drive. AOMEI Backupper Professional is your true friend. There are many other features available in this software.
Next. reboot your computer to your new SSD. You may need to change some boot order settings via BIOS or UEFI.
