Lesson 1. Backup PostgreSQL Database using Navicat Premium 12 Full Version
I am using Navicat Premium 12 Full version. You can download the free trial version of this Navicat Premium 12 from this link. To backup a database, follow these steps.
- Connect PostgreSQL to Navicat. You will need to create a new connection if you haven’t connect your PostgreSQL to Navicat.
- Open the connection to the PostgreSQL Server
- Open the database you want to backup
- Click Backup | New Backup
- On the New Backup wizard, go to Object Selection. Select which objects you want to include in the backup.
- Click Start to start the backup process.
- Click Save to save the current backup configuration for future use

Lesson 2. How to Restore PostgreSQL Database using Navicat Premium 12
A backup is not a backup if we cannot restore it completely. After you perform the backup, now lets try to restore the backup. The following animated images show how to restore PostgreSQL database to another database. Restoring a database is as simple as backing up the database. But, if you have PostGIS extension enabled, be careful when using this method. In my own experiences, the backup and restore method on Navicat make my PostGIS database unreadable in my GIS application such as QGIS.
Navicat Premium 12 offers an easy way to perform backup and restore on PostgreSQL database. But, please beware of the PostGIS extension, if you may have. Do not use this method since it will break the spatial information in the database.
