This tutorial is going to show you how to install VMware Workstation Pro 15.0 on Ubuntu. I am using Ubuntu 18.04 Bionic Beaver on this tutorial. VMware Workstation is a powerful virtualization software that allows us to run multiple operating systems on a single host. The new version 15.0 brings a lot of improvements as well as a new user interface. It runs on Ubuntu 18.04 very well.
Testing platform

- Kernel version 4.15.0-34-generic
- ThinkPad T420, Intel Core i5, 8GB RAM
Download VMware Workstation Pro 15.0
Please read our previous article to download the new version of VMware Workstation Pro 15.0. Or, you can follow this direct link to download the file. Select the Linux version and save it to your local directory. You will have a new file called:
VMware-Workstation-Full-15.0.0-10134415.x86_64.bundle
Install VMware Workstation Pro 15.0 on Ubuntu
Once you have the .bundle file, you can start install it by executing this command
sudo chmod +x VMware-Workstation-Full-15.0.0-10134415.x86_64.bundle sudo ./VMware-Workstation-Full-15.0.0-10134415.x86_64.bundle
Then, follow on screen installation wizard until completes. Once the installation finishes, you can start using VMware Workstation Pro 15.0 on Ubuntu 18.04.
This tutorial can be used on other Linux distributions but we haven’t tested them. You may try to install VMware Workstation on Debian, CentOS, Fedora or any other major distros.
Conclusion
VMware Workstation 15.0 works very well on Ubuntu 18.04. I don’t have any issues during the installation process. If you have a valid license of the previous version of VMware Workstation, you can upgrade to this version and pay cheaper upgrade fee.
