How to Backup Using Cloud Backup Robot

Files and Folder Backup

This is the best part of writing this article. I am going to show you how to backup files using Cloud Backup Robot. First, we create a new backup job. Select either Files/Folder backup or Microsoft SQL Server.

Next enter the new job name.

Next, select files and folders you want to backup. At this point, you can apply file filters if you want to include or exclude specific file types.

Enter new backup name and configure the encryption if you want to encrypt your backup

Select the backup destination. If you are planning to save the backup in the cloud, you will need to enter the login credentials such as access key and secret key for Amazon S3. Please note that you can save the backup in multiple destinations.

Configure the backup schedule. Enable this feature if you want to perform a regular backup.

That’s it. Now our backup is ready. You should see your backup jobs in the main window.

Microsoft SQL Server Backup using Cloud Backup Robot

If you are planning to backup your Microsoft SQL Server to Amazon S3, Dropbox, Box.com, Google Drive or any other FTP Server, please follow these steps.

Create a new Backup Job and then select Microsoft SQL Server from the backup source window.

Enter the new job name. For example I name my backup job as : MS_SQL_Server_01

Press Next and Cloud Backup Robot will scan your computer/network for any available SQL Server instance. In case the scan take long time, you may stop the scanning process and enter the SQL Server connection credential manually. Now enter the SQL Server credentials

Make sure you test the connection before proceeding to the next step

Select the SQL database to backup

Next give a name for the backup file and enable encryption if you want to.

Backup to Amazon S3

Add Backup Destination. Cloud Backup Robot supports many cloud storage such as Amazon S3, Google Drive. In this example, I want to show you how to add Amazon S3 to Cloud Backup Robot. Click Amazon S3 and then click Add button. This will open up the Amazon S3 configuration.

Now you will need to enter the Amazon S3 credentials. Enter your Amazon secret ID and secret key. Type the bucket name where you want to save the backup. This program can create new backup if its not exist.


Press Next and it will test the connection to Amazon S3. Once the connection has been made, we need to configure the backup retention policy. On this page, you can specify for how long you will keep the backup.There are several options

You can keep the backups forever, or keep the most recent backup only. You can also specify how many backups will be keep. Or the last option is to keep the backup made in the last N days only. Next, it will return to the backup destination window.

You can also add another backup destinations to the current backup job. If you have multiple cloud storage account, we recommend you to do this. It is good to have multiple backup sets on different cloud storage. Click Next to continue to the next step to configure the backup schedule.

You can set the backup schedule on this page. You can also use the manual backup if you don’t want to use the backup scheduler. Press Next and we have successfully created a new backup job on Cloud Backup Robot.

Well, there are many great cloud backup software that supports Amazon S3, Google Drive, FTP Server. But most of those backup software are not free. Also, it comes with an archive compression and encryption feature.

There is no differential or incremental backup feature on this software. So, it will attempt to create a full backup of your backup set everytime. If you have huge dataset to backup, this could be a problem for your back end storage because it will grow so fast.
